The Approach Trail Off and Running!
The morning finally arrives for me and my 34# backpack to begin the approach trail from the Amicalola Falls Lodge. Hike was totally uphill and the fog kept the view in a perpetual suspense. The joke with myself was, Can I make it to the actual start of the AT? Thank goodness for Black Gap Shelter at mile 7.3. Here I met Crackerjack, John Wayne, Linnea and Ethan….a longtime hiker, to be married in April, to be married in Oct and a Park Ranger, and a UT graduate of 2015, respectfully! All in all 14 hikers shared the first shelter stop on the 2193 mile journey..oh plus the 8.8 mile approach trail!
