The vortex

Day 55

Mountain Harbour Zero (unplanned)

Card of the day – 6 of pentacles

There was a bit of noise from the road but an amazing bed in the treehouse meant I probably got some sleep for a change.

This hostel could be a total vortex if you let it as it’s an amazing place.

A few of the fellowship are slack packing the miles they need to make up and are staying here again.

Stache asked me this morning if I would like to play a game which he called “is that a gun at you hip or are you just happy to see me”. Well there you go!  Turns out he was not happy to see me, more the pity.  He also spoke about the machine gun he had on his car and his extensive collection of other guns.  One of the best things about the AT is meeting people you never would in normal life and he is one of the good ones, it a total opposite to me.

The vortex!

I decided I’m staying again tonight after I finished blogging at about 12.  It was too late to hit the trail any way! Any excuse. I’ve always known in the back of my mind that this would be my Achilles heel.  There are worse places to spend the day and they have 10% IPA which I might have to indulge in.

So the kids rolled in

Sun beam said “condoms and snakes, two things I don’t fuck with”. Apparently that’s some way to say cheers! Cool beans

Beam order me foood because she thought I was drunk.  Dose she even know me?

Of course I was I’d been drinking since noon!  She’s a bit like a little sister, we watch each others backs.

I got really quite home sick.  I’ve been struggling for a while with why I’m here doing this, the answer that it’s an adventure is not really enough when your hiking 18 miles from 8am to 5pm over 1000ft inclines and declines constantly.
The other concern is just how far I’ve got left! It’s such a long way and do I really want to hike every day just to fail to get to the end in time any way?
Is the experience of trail life worth it?

I got quite melodramatic and decided I’m going home.

    Hey Cool Breeze!
It was a true joy hanging with you at Mtn Harbour on Thursday. We’ve talked of you many times since then and it’s only Monday morning. I understand feeling homesick and my heart is with you. I am reading your old posts and if you continue, I’ll be following you all the way to Katahdin. If you decide to go home – you’ll always be my favorite kilt hiker. 💕Hugs💕
